Heartworm Preventions are available for dogs and cats that are safe and 100% effective. Choosing the proper heartworm prevention however can be challenging as they may contain medications for fleas, mange, ear mites, ticks or intestinal worms as well as heartworms. All heartworm preventions contain medications from the same class of drugs called Macrocyclic Lactones which are all very similar in one sense but have very different actions, different toxic profiles and different forms of application.
